Dr. LaTanya Carter, PhD, LP
Licensed Psychologist, Speaker, and Mentor
Dr. LaTanya is a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Michigan with over 15 years of clinical experience, a deep commitment to faith-integrated care, and a passion for empowering individuals to lead emotionally healthy, purpose-driven lives. Her approach combines evidence-based psychological treatment with a compassionate understanding of each client’s personal, cultural, and spiritual background.
Education & Professional Foundations
LaTanya’s academic journey began at the University of Michigan, where she earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and African-American and African Studies. She continued her education at Michigan State University, where she obtained both her Master’s and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
After several years in practice, LaTanya felt called to deepen her understanding of spiritual care and returned to school to earn a Master’s in Spiritual Formation and Discipleship from Moody Theological Seminary in 2017. This unique combination of rigorous clinical training and theological education has shaped her as both a therapist and a thought leader in the integration of faith and mental health.
Clinical Work & Specializations
LaTanya began her career working within the criminal justice system, gaining critical experience with complex trauma and systemic barriers to care. She later transitioned to outpatient therapy, where she found her niche in Christian counseling, a specialty that remains central to her work today.
In her private practice, LaTanya provides therapy to adults facing anxiety, depression, grief, and ADHD, using a client-centered approach grounded in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). While many of her clients seek out her faith-informed expertise, she also works respectfully with clients from all religious backgrounds—or none—offering a safe, inclusive space for healing.
Her ultimate goal is to help individuals gain clarity, build resilience, and thrive emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
Public Speaking & Community Engagement
In addition to her clinical work, LaTanya is an engaging and dynamic public speaker. She has been invited to present at churches, schools, universities, and mental health organizations across Michigan and beyond. Her presentations cover a wide range of topics including:
- Depression & Anxiety
- Emotional Intelligence
- Racial Trauma & Healing

- Community
She is available for both in-person and virtual events, and is known for blending psychological expertise with heartfelt, relatable delivery that resonates with diverse audiences.
Supervision & Mentorship
LaTanya is also deeply committed to investing in the next generation of clinicians. She currently supervises several Limited Licensed Psychologists (LLPs), helping them develop confidence, competence, and ethical grounding in their professional work.
Personal Life & Creative Work
Outside of her clinical and speaking roles, LaTanya enjoys writing, traveling, baking, and watching college football. She is currently working on her first book and looks forward to sharing her voice more widely through publication.
Whether in the therapy room, the classroom, or on stage, Dr. LaTanya’s work is driven by a desire to restore hope, build emotional strength, and honor each person’s journey toward wholeness.
